Join us for an examination of yoga philosophy and practice. Set in a four session series, students will come away with a solid grasp of everything from common Sanskrit words, to guidance on understanding and integrating tenets of a committed yoga practice, to types of physical practices and more.
Sessions may be attended independently, but are best experienced as a four week course. Each session is 2 hours and includes discussion/lecture and a physical practice, with supplemental materials provided.
Weekly Topics:
October 17 Where Do We Begin?- An introduction to the 8 Limbs of Yoga, an introduction to Sanskrit, and readings and analyzations of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.
October 24 It’s More Than Leggings and Handstands- Diving into the Yamas and Niyamas (tenets of a more introspective rather than purely physical yoga practice), finding working definitions and practical applications.
October 31 One Goal, Many Paths- The physical side of yoga, from breaking down favorite poses to exploring different schools (Hatha, Power, Ashtanga and more).
November 7 Odds & Ends & Integration- A final workshop focusing on all the rest! Mantras & mudras, chakras, the study of Ayurveda, using anatomy & functional movement to inform your practice, and more.
